Sunsets, beaches, oranges, and more sunsets
are some of Florida's perennial attractions. When the first snow covers the ground in much of the country, it's tempting to hop on a plane in winter boots, and exchange them for bare feet in hot sand, contemporary art, and mojitos in South Beach. A side trip to the keys provides a little more quiet time -although it is probably a different place than the Southern Florida Hemingway sought in the 1930s when he lived in Key West. Still, despite the many tacky places, the many German tourists in sandals, and the many shell shacks, there is something in the humid air and turquoise water that slows down time.
