Touring the Icehotel, a colorful drink at the Absolutbar, and frozen fingers are nothing without a good measure of northern lights. The recipe:
Be close to either the North Pole or South Pole (Aurora Borealis, or Aurora Australis, respectively), winter (the borealis occurs during the summer, but there is always daylight, so you can't see it), a clear night, and luck! In our case, my friends and I went outside to tour the Icehotel village, and the spectacle started to form in the sky. First subtle, green glowing bands, but at times wild, swirling formations moving quickly in the sky. To capture it on film, a good camera, tripod, and long exposures are essential, and the above shot was taken just across the street from the Icehotel in a forest. There is something very eerie and beautiful about the Aurora, and it couldn't have been a more perfect day.
